Apple now has updated DVD Studio Pro to version 1.5.1. While complementing Apple's Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro software gives users of Macintosh computers, that have Super drives or external DVD-R burners, the ability to make DVD's that exploit any capability that is available in the DVD-Video standard. The problems that this update addresses are: Macrovision APS bits; 24-bit AIFF files containing digital noise; incorrect A.Pack monitor Sample rate; Region 7 setting flagging as playable and generally improving stability for DVD-ROM burning. The update is available for free at: www.apple.com.

QuarkXPress 6.0 will eventually be carbonized - ready for Mac OS X carbon application programming interfaces. It will also have PostScript 3 support and an improved XML engine. This means old plug-ins will not work with 6.0. Look for this upgrade in the first quarter of 2003. www.quark.com.

Bluetooth could catch on in a big way. Apple and Microsoft have integrated this short-range wireless technology into their operating systems. Jaguar, Apple's OS X update (v. 10.2) will have native Bluetooth support at the OS rollout on August 24th, 2002. Microsoft will ship Bluetooth native Windows XP in late third quarter or early fourth quarter of 2002. For the Macintosh, you need: OS X 10.2 and a third party Bluetooth adapter, such as the D-Link DWB-120 M Bluetooth USB Adapter attached to a USB port on your Mac!

IDG World Expo may move the MacWorld Expo away from the Javits Center in New York City, after being there for five years, and go back to Boston. It seems that rising prices at the Javits Center upsets the conference management. There is also a rumor of a new convention center to be built in Boston in 2004. With rising costs and dwindling conference attendance, IDG World Expo looks to Boston for special treatment in exchange for returning home. Awwh! I wuz just getting used to NYC MacWorld.
