How do you save to disk in OS10.4.11 streaming video which can not be saved via sites like KeepVid or GetVid ? I have browsers Safari 4.1.2 and IE 5.2.3. (In OS9 I pulled the file from Netscape's cache folder in Preferences). I know the streaming video is some place on my hard drive because I can play it when disconnected from the web. Thanks.

I'd narrow down the kind of streaming video it is but Quicktime Pro - if you can get a compatible version for your old OS installs - might be the easiest way to go
with least amount of work as it allows saving streams. VLC is another idea to see if you can find older version. Are these .mov files?

Here is one interesting idea : http://www.macinstruct.com/node/113

Google search would be my next suggestion to try and I found a number of leads.

There comes a time that using decade old OS's to do these chores that adds lots of work to what otherwise might be easy.

Thank you Peter. The specific article you mentioned will be a help in many situations. My Google searches also indicated using OS X versions of my old browser and saving the video from the cache.

For recent OS use:

Perian, a free pref pane may help

and

MPlayerX is one to add to a collection:

Visualizing OSX Invisibles

As part of my attempt to save Streaming Videos that can't be saved using sites like KeepVid or Peter's suggestion found at
http://www.macinstruct.com/node/113,
I found out that flash videos are, in Tiger, saved on the hard drive in an invisible folder called:
"private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems"

How do I make this folder visible so I can copy its individual flash files to an external drive?
Also, how, in OS10.4 (and higher) do I make files and folders invisible? I find that files that I made invisible in OS9.2.2 are all visible when I bring them into OSX.
Thank You.

You would not want to change the settings on the folder to visible due to OS being happier when it is not, BUT you could locate the folder using SEARCH for invisibles or a program like Better Finder Attributes and search for
invisible folder named "TemporaryItems" and once you find that you should be able to make an alias or drag to left side of a window dialogue box so is a PLACE.

There are certainly ways to do all this in CLI (Command Line Interface) of OSX but that is not my strong suite.

If you start any file or folder name with a period, it will instantly become invisible and there are visibility bit settings in some versions of OSX that can be set. Some programs do this for making secret folders.
