BY CHRIS BASTIAN I'm so glad we had this time together This issue marks the retirement of long-time MetroMac volunteer Henry Marcinkowski as Editor of the MetroMac Express. Henry took on the job in the Fall of 2002 and has seen us through 10 issues, including the challenges of changing our format from Acrobat to HTML, and the frustrations of dealing with an all-volunteer staff and the occasionally late submission of articles (mine included). On behalf of all of MetroMac's members, let me say thanks to Henry for his dedication and perseverance. Ask
Not what your Country can do With Henry's departure, we're now looking for someone new to take on editorial responsibilities. Experience is desirable, but not necessary if you've got energy and enthusiasm, and are willing to work with a bunch of occasionally recalcitrant volunteers. As always, we're also looking for new help with writing, artwork, editing and layout tasks. If you'd like to get involved, drop me an email and I'll get you plugged in. And now a word from our Sponsors Speaking of thanks, it's appropriate every now and then to express our thanks for the companies that have helped MetroMac carry out its activities. First and foremost, thanks to Adam Rackoff and the staff at the Apple Store SoHo (www.apple.com/retail/soho) who've offered up their deluxe theater for the past year for our public meetings. Not only does it provide us with A/V equipment we couldn't hope to buy ourselves, but the Apple Store has a cachet for computer companies, making it easier to get them to come to meetings. Next, kudos to Web2Zone (www.web2zone.com), the cyber center that provides space for MetroMac's Board of Directors. And finally, but not least, a tip of the hat to DT-UT (www.dtut.com) which hosts the meetings of our Special Interest Groups. Helping Those who Help Themselves Finally, speaking of SIG's, we've had a successful kickoff of two new groups: the Legacy SIG for users of older Macs and earlier versions of the Mac operating system (meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month), and the Novice SIG for beginners (meets the 4th Tuesday of each month). The value of these groups derives not only from the knowledge and helpfulness of their moderators (Bill Chachkes for the Legacy SIG, and Bill and Seth Elgart for the Novice SIG) but from the active participation of meeting attendees with questions, answers, opinions and ideas. No special arrangements to join; just show up. Check MetroMac's website for meeting information.
