Dubya
wants Broadband
U.S. President George
W. Bush has
called for affordable access to
broadband
Internet service for everybody by the year 2007.
He says that this availability of technology would speed the flow of
information. Congress must not tax access to broadband service if it
is to spread around. High speed service would allow people to start a
business or realize the dream of home ownership with money made using
it. Right now, figures show that broadband growth slowed last year (2003).
Compare that with speedier growth all through 2002. So, the President
rationalizes that broadband growth will keep slowing through this year,
unless we do something to lower prices. "The more the price goes down,
the more users there will be." I, for one, would give up my trusty 'ole
56K modem I am sending this column on for DSL or Cable Modem service
if they would drop monthly prices [$19.95/month would do me just fine
