The Missing Link
Oops! The Christmas season, travel plans, and a heavy workload conspired to keep me from writing my first column since MetroMac Express began publishing. Fortunately, Editor Henry Marcinkowski and his crew weren’t as encumbered and put out another fine issue. My New Year’s resolution is to keep up with the deadlines more conscientiously and not let it happen again.

The San Francisco Treat
Anything’s better than staying in a New York with subfreezing temperatures (except perhaps returning to a New York with subfreezing temperatures), but kicking off the year with Macworld Expo San Francisco (the afore-mentioned travel plans) is always invigorating treat; a chance to peruse the latest toys and gadgets check off the items on my shopping list, and catch up with assorted Mac celebrities and old friends, as well as a great opportunity to stock up on goodies for future General Meetings. Check my companion article for some of the highlights.

Inc Stained Fingers
I’m delighted to report that, thanks to the diligent efforts of our Treasurer Bess Moffitt, and our legal team at Cadwalader, MetroMac has now been officially incorporated in the State of New York. Next step is completing our application for recognition by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) educational institutional, which should give us a greater degree of awareness and respect in the NYC computer community, as well as the opportunity to raise funds to support our educational endeavors.

Third Time’s the Charm
Hard to believe MetroMac’s reached its third birthday already. From a half-dozen beginners, our membership list now tops out at nearly 600, with over 100 people in our Supporting Member category, 14 newsletters published, a regular meeting program at the finest Mac theater in town, two SIG’s up and running and a third ready to begin. It’s an exciting time to be involved, and we’re always looking forward to welcoming more participants. If you’d like to help, drop me a line and let me know what interests you.
