Homeward Bound
You’ll recall from my last column that we were scheduled to be uprooted from our comfy home at the Apple store in June for a planned renovation. While our friends at Tekserve were generous enough to offer a temporary meeting space, at the last minute Apple changed their schedule and invited us back. Of course, that means there’ll probably be another planned renovation which could affect our meeting plans. Just goes to show that you should always read our e-mail notices and check the MetroMac website for the latest meeting details.

Mellow Yellow
Back at the April meeting, I spent some time with the audience asking what people wanted out of the group in terms of meeting topics, forum discussions, new services, etc. The answer I got was that everyone seemed pretty darn happy with the way things were going. While I’d like to take that as a tribute to our hard-working volunteers, I can’t believe that NOBODY has any ideas about how we can make things better. This is a community effort and we look to you to help guide our progress AND bring it about. Please drop me a line with your thoughts about where we should be going in the next year.

Golden Oldies
One idea that came up later was for a “Legacy” Special Interest Group, to meet the needs of our members who are still using OS 9 and older computers. This poses a challenge, because a lot of our fonts of knowledge have long since moved to OS X. What we CAN do is help our members help themselves. So, we’ll be kicking off the Legacy SIG with a meeting on Tuesday, August 10, at which we’ll help YOU organize yourself to help each other. Because, as a “community”, sharing our information and knowledge, even if we’re not all experts, is the best way to help each other.

Put a Tiger in your Tank
So, Apple’s coming out with another OS X upgrade (10.4) with another feline codename (“Tiger” strangely enough), which means I’m rapidly running through my list of cat analogies. I can only hope that Steve gets a dog sometime soon, and we start shifting over to “wolfhound”, “coyote”, etc. Still, if you want to know what this upgrade means to you, MetroMac’s meetings and forums are the place to get the latest scoop. Hope you’ll stay in touch!
