Apple updates many
Apple has
released a security update for Mac OS X Panther (10.3x). Security Update
2004-01-26 brings
many security enhancements
to: Classic, Mail, Safari Windows File Sharing and Apache 1.3 inside
OS 10.3 software. The Security Update 2003-12-19 has been included into
this update. Acquire the update by using your Software Update control
panel. Apple issued an update for their AirPort Extreme base station
and wireless networking software. This update gives you support for AirPort
Extreme and Airport clients as well as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) specification
for the AirPort Extreme base station. AirPort Software 3.3 and the supplied
AirPort Extreme base station firmware 5.3 are available by using the

Apple brings
an update to AppleWorks (their integrated productivity software bundle)
to Mac users. This new version will update AppleWorks 6.0x to 6.2.8
if you are using OS 8.1 - 9.x, and to 6.2.9 if you are using Mac OS
X. AppleWorks
includes: painting, drawing, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation
and database capabilities. Included in AppleWorks are file translators
so you can work with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word files too.
The OS X update (6.2.9) improves: printing, support for mice with scroll
wheels, performance of spreadsheet and presentation environments and
resolves problems during use of Web-based templates and clip-art that

Apple released
an update to Soundtrack - their loop-based music creation software.
We
first saw Soundtrack included with Final Cut Pro 4. With
Soundtrack you can: create royalty-free music using hundreds of loop
files, create files with Apple's own Apple Loops format, and import
files
from: AIFF, WAV and ACID formats. These files can be mixed in with
DVD, video or Web projects. Now that soundtrack is a stand alone
application - this update, (version 1.2): adds user customizable effects
presets,
document compression, MTC and MIDI beat clock synchronization and
improves support for large audio files. To update, you must have: Soundtrack
1.1
and OS X 10.2.8, a valid Soundtrack serial number and QuickTime 6.1.

Sonnett ships the

Sonnet

shipped the Encore/ZIF G4 800 and 1 GHz upgrade
chips. This CPU upgrade replaces the chips that you have in
the Beige PowerMac G3's, the Blue and white G3's and PCI-based PowerMac
G4's
(Apple code name "Yikes"). These upgrade chips, based on Motorola's
745X series processor, have 256KB of Level 2 Cache and 1MB
of SDR Level 3 Cache.

Mozilla moves to
1.6
The
Mozilla Project brings
out Mozilla v. 1.6 - their open source Web and e-mail program. This
program provides us with Web browsing, HTML
editing, IRC chat
and e-mail. Also featured is Tabbed browsing and junk mail
and popup blocking.
There is now: NTLM authentication for the first time on
the Mac platform, vCard support and the ability to delete mail
from POP3 accounts after
a number of user defined days. Some security bugs have
been fixed, crash bugs fixed and Ask Jeeves searching has been

Bitstream at the
8th
Bitstream Inc. rolled
out their eighth set of fonts in their New Fonts collection. They
are all in the PostScript Type 1 and TrueType formats. However,
there is one
font, Ambiance,
that is in the OpenType format. Other font types in
the collection are: Orchestra, Lindisfarne Runes, Lindisfarne Nova
and
Indoo.

Bruno Pods his account
Pod Manager has
a new version. French developer
Bruno Blondeau released version 2.1 of his iPod
utility. Coded
in Cocoa (for OS X), it allows users to access
files on your iPod that
can be
downloaded into your Mac's hard drive. This version
adds support for UTF8 iPod drive names, support for 3G iPods and
improved upon its Panther
(OS 10.3) documentation and support. Shareware
priced at $7.95.
